Entry Requirements for Egypt: What You Need to Know Before You Go

Are you dreaming of exploring the ancient wonders of Egypt? Before you pack your bags, make sure you're up-to-date on the entry requirements to ensure a smooth and enjoyable journey. Here's what you need to know:

Visa Requirements

Most travelers to Egypt will need a visa. There are a few options available:

  1. eVisa: You can apply for an eVisa online through the official portal. This option allows you to secure your visa before you travel. This website is extremely outdated and can be a hassle to work with, but this is the only website that will not charge you fees. So if you plan to do your visa in advance, please do it directly through the official website.

  2. Visa on Arrival: Available for many nationalities at major entry points, including Cairo International Airport. The visa fee is typically around $25. This is the easiest thing to do, although there may be wait times.

  3. Consulate Visa: If you prefer, you can also apply for a visa at the Egyptian consulate or embassy in your home country.

Passport Validity

Your passport must be valid for at least six months from your date of entry into Egypt. Ensure that your passport has enough blank pages for entry and exit stamps.

Health and Vaccination Requirements

Egypt does require travelers ≥9 months old arriving from countries with risk for yellow fever virus transmission to provide proof of vaccination against this disease. This is the only vaccination required within these special requirements as of now, it's always wise to be up-to-date on routine vaccinations. If you are not traveling from a country at risk of yellow fever, no vaccine is required. Please see the list of at risk countries below:

Other Important Documents

Make sure to have the following documents ready:

  • A return or onward ticket

  • Proof of accommodation for your stay in Egypt

  • Sufficient funds to cover your expenses during your stay

  • Travel Insurance

Final Tips

  • Stay Updated: Entry requirements can change, so always check for the latest information before your departure.

  • Be Prepared: Have all necessary documents easily accessible to avoid any delays at immigration.
